HRMC Partners With Other Healthcare Organizations To Help Fight Diabetes

Prestonsburg – Debbie Ousley, Clinical Educator, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, detailed the hospital’s participation in a community diabetes program, held November 14 at the McDowell Senior Citizen Building. Partners comprising the Floyd County Diabetes Coalition include Highlands Regional Medical Center, the Floyd County Health Department, St. Joseph Martin, McDowell ARH, the Floyd County Extension Office, Big Sandy ADD and Mountain Comprehensive Care.

The date coincided with World Diabetes Day as healthcare organizations around the world worked to increase awareness of the disease and steps which can be taken to minimize or avoid diabetes. Locally, services provided during this event included lab work for area participants, the presentation of healthy cooking ideas, weight and body mass index, blood pressure readings and the distribution of information on diabetes such as risk factors, prevention, complications and management.

A proclamation was signed by the Floyd County Judge Executive marking the day as Floyd County’s contribution to World Diabetes. Highlands Regional Medical Center is proud to be a part of this community fight against Diabetes.
