Daughter Alex Heironymus poses beside her father’s dedication plaque in the Charles Hieronymus Medical Staff Lounge at Highlands Regional Medical Center.
Prestonsburg – Friends, family and peers gathered in the Atrium of the Highlands Regional Medical Office Building on Wednesday, January 6 to honor Dr. Charles Hieronymus, a widely respected and admired physician who recently passed away. The Board of Trustees and Medical Staff of Highlands Regional Medical Center made the Hieronymus name a permanent part of the facility by dedicating the Medical Staff Lounge in honor of “Dr. Hiero,” as he was affectionately known by his patients and friends.
Dr. Hieronymus earned his medical degree from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. A native of Frenchburg, Kentucky, he briefly worked at a hospital in Savannah, Georgia, before returning to eastern Kentucky in 1973. In addition to his personal practice and service at Highlands Regional Medical Center, Dr. Hieronymus’ commitment to the community was reflected by his serving 20 years on the Floyd County Board of Health.
Bud Warman, President and CEO of Highlands Health System, joined by Dr. Debbie Hall, Highlands Regional Medical Center Chief of Medical Staff, spoke of fond memories of Dr. Hieronymus during the dedication ceremony. The late doctor’s daughter, Alex Hieronymus, gave a heartfelt presentation to the many in attendance.
A reception followed in the Charles Hieronymus Medical Staff Lounge.
