A panel of physicians and local community leaders came together during the recent Go Red for Women event hosted by Highlands Regional Medical Center to speak about women and heart disease.
February is recognized as American Heart Month by the American Heart Association. To help raise awareness among local
women about the effects of heart disease, Highlands Regional Medical Center recently hosted the 2010 Go Red for Women Luncheon at the Ramada Inn in Paintsville.
Over one hundred ladies attended the event and heard from a panel of physicians and community leaders about the critical issues of women and heart disease. The panel members consisted of Ayesha Sikder, M.D., Ghassan Dalati, M.D., Vaughn Payne, M.D., F.A.C.C., Brandi Collins, D.O., Bonito Bobo, of the Kentucky Department of Health, and Bertie Kay Salyer, of the Magoffin County Health Department. Mabel Lemaster, a retired teacher of Paintsville, gave a touching survivor testimony.
Mrs. Jean Dorton, Community & Legislative Liaison for Big Sandy Community and Technical College, was the Master of
Ceremonies for the afternoon. Attendees also took advantage of a vendor fair, free health screening, a heart healthy lunch, and door prizes.
“The annual Go Red event hosted by HRMC is a true demonstration of how our hospital empowers the community to become educated on preventable diseases,” commented HRMC Community Development Director Melissa Vance. “The event was a success because of our dedicated physicians that work daily to not only treat, but prevent heart and stroke disease.”
Highlands Regional Medical Center continues to serve the communities of the Big Sandy region with access to quality healthcare. Go Red for Women is just one of the many events that HRMC supports in an effort to add value to the community.
