Dr. Jeremy Parsons, a physician at the Harold Primary Care Clinic, recently made a week-long journey to Ouanaminthe, Haiti with the East Kentucky Mission team. This was Dr. Parsons’ second trip volunteering his time and services at the Institution Univers, which serves as a Christian-based private school and a medical clinic.

“People in Haiti are suffering right now. They need all the help we can give them. They deal with adversity on an everyday basis, even more so now after the earthquake,” said Dr. Parsons. “They’re resilient people, and will get through this.”

Although Dr. Parsons and the rest of the East Kentucky Mission team were two hundred miles from Haiti’s capital, they still treated many victims of the devastating earthquake that occurred on January 12, 2010. People from the capital city had migrated, and some were bused in to the medical clinic in Ouanamanthe. Dr. Parsons treated various health concerns that could have been associated with the affects of the deadly earthquake such as post traumatic stress disorders, wound infections, dehydration, malaria, dysentery, and cholera. The medical team also performed amputations.
