Prestonsburg – When the basketball team of Wesley Christian School took the court this winter, part of the proceeds from one designated game were donated to Highlands Foundation, earmarked for Breast Cancer patients.
Wesley Christian students raised more than $150, which was used to purchase turbans from the American Cancer Society. The turbans are routinely worn by cancer patients who have lost their hair. The donation was made by Leslie Nelson of Wesley Christian School, and represented the latest effort by WCS students to raise money for the Foundation. Previous efforts have benefited other projects including the Highlands Center for Autism.
“Some of life’s greatest lessons take place outside the classroom,” Kathy Rubado , Director of the Foundation , said. “It is refreshing to see these young people extending a hand to help those who are facing serious health issues. We not only thank them for their monetary donation, but equally for the spirit in which they embrace helping others.”
