Highlands Nurse Receives Oncology Nursing Certification
October 11, 2017
Prestonsburg, KY – Kim Napier, RN, MSN, Oncology Coordinator at Highlands Regional Medical Center, recently passed the Oncology Certified Nursing Exam administered in Lexington, Ky.
The test is supervised by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation, and formally recognizes clinical expertise and competency in the oncology field. Having a certified Oncology Nurse on staff promotes positive outcomes in symptom management, quality of life, patient and family satisfaction, and cost of care. Maintaining the certification requires completing continuing education courses, medical education, and/or publishing studies and presentations.
Napier is hopeful that the certification will allow her to provide better care to patients experiencing complex problems associated with cancer diagnoses.
“Cancer patients want to learn everything they can about their disease and its treatment, and they expect the same level of commitment from their healthcare providers. Having and maintaining this certification lets our patients know we have the expertise they expect. ” says Napier.
About Napier: Napier has worked at Highlands since July, 2016, and has over 15 years of nursing experience. Napier works with Dr. Swaty Arora and the Highlands Oncology team in the Medical Center’s new Oncology suite located in the Medical Office Building.
